third level domain issue

Hi,

What I'm doing is offering a service for a specific group. They can go through WHCMS and create an account. I offer free subdomain service.

WHCMS is creating the accounts with the third level domains properly in DA, but they aren't accessible on the internet. Not resolving.

I can go in and manually create these account using subdomains on every other domain I host and they work great and instantly. But the one domain I WANT to use will not work. The top level domain works just fine and as far as I can see in DA, set up exactly like other top level domains I tested with.

In short, I'm trying to create 1.example.com. example.com works great, but 1.example.com will not resolve. Even if I go into example's account and create a subdomain using the subdomain manager.

This is ONLY with one domain name. All the rest work as they should.

I hope all this makes sense.

I'm using 64 bit CentOS 5

Update:

I discovered I can use "www.1.example.com" but not "1.example.com"

Again, this is only for ONE domain name. All others tested work perfect.

Since my last post, I ran:
cp /usr/local/directadmin/data/templates/dns_a.conf /usr/local/directadmin/data/templates/custom/dns_a.conf

Didn't work

I also added "*" A record to example.com

Didn't work for creating separate accounts using 1.example.com but did work for creating subdomains in example.com's subdomain manager.
