Greetings. I am considering purchasing a Dedicated Server and need a control panel. After using cPanel for less than a month and wanting to shoot myself, I found DA and am already pleased! My question is this: What services are tightly-coupled to DA, as in I shouldn't upgrade / recompile / change them after DA installs them? Is DA simply configured to use services such as Apache, MySQL, ProFTP, Mail, etc. through variables letting it know where these things live, or is it a lot more complicated than that?

Thanks!

It's just about that simple. You can't easily change the programs because DA is set up to use them in certain carefully defined ways, but you can generallly update as you wish.

DirectAdmin itself is a compiled C++ program and except for some libraries and it's configuration files doesn't rely on much on the server.
