First post - Flamefilter enabled.

I'm new to DA and have been looking for procedural docs or "how to's" to help with setting up a new dedicated environment - I'm in over my head and haven't been able to find good docs for DA. Anyone have any pointers?

Thanks!

This is DirectAdmin's documentation to the interface and is quite useful, however it does not document some of the new additions to the interface such as the spamassasin settings, but it does cover the basics.

Also a good resource if you know what your looking for. You'll be able to find answers to common problems and short tutorials, ranging from upgrading services using customapache, to Optimizing MySQL.

Those are the two main sources I use looking for help (besides these forums and google ) :p

If you don't have any luck with those, there are these forums. Usually you can find what your looking for with the search function, and in the event you don't, you can always ask

Good-Luck! :D

Thanks for the reply, I will most certainly bookmark those and start reading...

I seem to be up and running but I'm under the impression that my next task is to tweak a few things to improve perrformance. I think something is misconfigured (per default) because my site *should* be amazingly fast - and it's not. It hangs on page renders, meaning, when you click a link, nothing... nothing... nothing... nothing... nothing... then BLAM! Obviously not ideal.

Does this sound familliar? It's not likely a DA issue, so much as it is a config issue - I hope that's all it is anyway. Any ideas?

1 Domain, small handful of subs and a nameserver - Dedicate Server;

CPU: P4 @ 2.8GHz HT
Ram: 2GB DDR
Line: 100Mbps
CentOS: 3.4
Apache: 1.3.33
MySQL: 4.0.23
Database: 87MB

Maybe something to do with the massive downloads - I saw 1 file 51Mb downloaded over 500 times - I tried to take a look around more (while downloading it myself as it looked good) but the site seized up.

EDIT: I also see you have 14799 site members - I reckon your site is just very busy.

Maybe you should get your Systems Administrator to give some input as to how to speed things up. If you haven't got one then I reckon hire one - a couple of hours shouldn't cost more than approx $150.

The downloads aren't the problem. It's backboned on a 100MBps line. :|

There are files on my site much larger than that. I'm sure you'll agree that it downloaded fine and filled your pipe nicely. The files and their sizes are not the problem.

EDIT:

I'm the site admin. I built it, designed it, provide the content, do most of the writing, gather material and maintain it.

Firstly - I downloaded the nuclear download it was fantastic!

Secondly do you have something like MRTG installed? (search this forum for it)

It wasn't the fact you've got one download but your site has masses and masses and masses of downloads.

The fact is as soon as the download had finished the site sped up again for me. So maybe theres some sort of 'throttling' in place ?

Glad you like the nukes vid, I spent quite a while on that one. Anyway, throttling isn't the problem, either. I've tested the line many times, that's not it. If anything, it saturated your line while you were downloading.

I'm trouble-shooting everything from scratch at this point. I'll look around for MRTG.
