I searched this forum but could not find the what I was looking for.

I have two servers both running directadmin and both hosting a account with the same domainname. One server is running a new website and everything is working fine. Before i point the nameservers to the new site I have to copy / transfer all email accounts to the new server. When I make a backup on User level and only select the email options the backup file also contains files ( user.conf) that contains IP en nameserver info. The new server uses a different IP en different NS servers. Could I simply restore the backup file without destroying the new server.

Or is there a better way to just transfer only the email account's

Many thanks

Isaac

I just tested.

I never noticed this before, but the backup includes the zone file and the IP# in the user.conf file.

If you want you can untar the backup, fix those files, retar the backup and then restore it on the new machine.

Or you can just go ahead and do the restore and make sure the zone file is still correct, and that the configuration file for the domain is still correct.

Or wait, and hopefully DirectAdmin staff will respnd.

Hello,

If the User account and domain already exist, then a new domain will not be created, so the existing zone will remain.

For that case, DA doesn't look at the old IP in the user.conf or zones.. they don't matter.

However, if you are using the "multi-IP" setup for your domain, and your old domain's zone IPs do not match the IP in your backed up user.conf file, then DA will assume that the IP is "custom" and merge it with the current zone.

If you're not using the multi-ip per domain feature, then you'll be fine.

If in doubt, just backup your /var/named/domain.com.db file and compare after you're done the restore.
