Hi All,

I have a question concerning local mail delivery (or not?).

One of our clients wants to use the mail-scanning-services of TrendMicro.
Therefor we set the mx-records of the domain(s) to the ones TrendMicro wants us to.
However, after scanning/cleaning, the mail is forwarded to our server again.

How do I configure this, as the mail is effectively being handled at to locations, one after another.
Do I use local mail handling, or not? Wat settings do I need to make it run smoothly?

Any hints and tips welcome.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

This is a generic reply based on the limited information you've given about Trend Micro.

You should set your MX records to point to Trend Micro, but you should NOT uncheck the setting for DirectAdmin to handle your email.

This will have several possibly undesirable side effects:

1) email originating on your server will be delivered directly on your server; it will never go to the TrendMicro server.

2) Spammers which deliver by A record rather than by MX, will still deliver spam to your server.

If you need information on getting around these side effects you'll need to work with the people at Trend Micro; since we don't know their limitations we can't tell you how to mitigate them. Or you can hire me or another one of the server administrators who post here to work with TrendMicro for you.

Jeff
