I guess your point is that Wikipedia is built on and optimized for, Ubuntu.

That of course doesn't change the fact that DirectAdmin is built on CentOS, and then ported to other distributions.

Did you read that article? The Wikipedia folk never considered CentOS; they switched from Fedora, because it was too fast moving for them. I've always said that as well.

The main reason I don't like Ubuntu/Debian for DirectAdmin is that it doesn't seem to have anything similar to the exclude tag in yum, which makes it harder to do updates and not accidentally overwrite something you're doing manually in DirectAdmin. If I'm wrong, please explain.

Its there. As I said, not as easy to use or figure out as exclude in yum.conf.

I am guessing something like this:

Package: perl
Pin: version *
Pin-Priority: 0

Perhaps it needs to be -1 instead of 0?

It sure looks like it but I am no Debian guru. All I have worked with is CentOS and Fedora. I like the idea of Debian since it has no upstream dependance. I like CentOS because I am used to it.
 
Supporting Ubuntu would be a good idea because they have LTS versions and a lot of professional apps have versions that easily install on that.
