Hi i've done a vanilla install on ubuntu 10.04 and i'm seeing the following error when invoking exim:

exim: relocation error: /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libnss_compat.so.2: symbol strcmp, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

I've found a related thread: http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36298 where a similar problem was fixed by changing the license OS to debian 5.0.

The OS in my license already is set to debian 5.0 (was already set to this value during install), any suggestion on how to fix this?

Hello,

With the many flavors of Debian out there, the 1 set of exim binaries tend to vary in functionality across these different versions.

I'd like to move exim into custombuild for compiles at install time, which would ensure everyone get's a working copy (assuming systems have the many required modules at install time), and also helps with regards to keeping exim updated.

The solution posted is correct, to compile exim from source.

I seem to recall at one time in the past you didn't want to compile exim from source because of the time it took.

Is this no longer a big issue?

Thanks.

Hello,

It's still going to take time, but if it's got to be compiled anyway, then we might as well add it. I believe it's already in 1.2, so we'll migrate it to 1.1 and put some testing in with it (default to "off"). If it's ever going to default to be compiled at install time, there will be a fairly lengthly list of required libraries that are going to be needed.. so I'm not sure if "default" will ever be an option. Perhaps a check of the install of the precompiled binaries, and if they're not working, then auto start the compile in the hope that it will work. (may as well try if the binaries don't work)
