I am making the assumption that Uebimiau is now a "dead" project? half the links do not appear to work on the website and it is not compatible with PHP5.5.

Would I be right in making this call to remove it from my server?

The reason I started thinking about this was due to the following;

ERROR (8192): preg_replace(): The /e modifier is deprecated, use preg_replace_callback instead (/var/www/html/webmail/smarty/Smarty_Compiler.class.php:92)ERROR (8192): preg_replace(): The /e modifier is deprecated, use preg_replace_callback instead (/var/www/html/webmail/smarty/Smarty_Compiler.class.php:92)

Thanks.

You're going to need to make that decision on your own. I removed it a long time ago, after DirectAdmin implemented IMAP. Originally UebiMiau as chosen for DirectAdmin because the other webmail solutions required IMAP, but UebiMiau worked with both IMAP and POP3.

If you decide to remove it you may need to help your clients, because any folders created inside UebiMiau (as configured for DirectAdmin, as a POP3 client) are NOT imap folders, so when switching to an IMAP based solution (for example Squirrelmail, Roundcube) those folders and their contents won't be available.

If you're going to fully remove UebiMiau, then give your clients plenty of notice to move their emaios in any added folders back to their main INBOX folder and then either leave them there for reading and refiling when they switch to Squirrelmail or RoundCube, or download them to their local systems.

In spite of the inconvenience, I'd say that because standards are important, and more and more people are moving to Webmail these days, that doing it sooner rather than later is a good idea.

I would never use Uebimiau or Squirrelmail both of them are dead projects.

Last Uebimiau update seems to originate from 2006... I would say that's become scary ghostware alright.
Squirrelmail, although still alive and, well, the 90's called... They want their layout back! ;)

There is a fork of Uebimiau, named Telaen, however, they don't seem to update their software regularly: https://github.com/jimjag/telaen (last release was made a year ago). In 2007 I wrote an installation script for telaen to replace uebimiau, but there seem to be better alternatives nowadays like RoundCube, which is included by default together with DA.

Last update of squirrelmail was 2011, how is that alive?

I just had a quick glance at their site and noticed a "May 30, 2013"-date on top (which I read as 2014) so I presumed there were still a few peeps keeping the lights on over there.
But the last update seems 'ages' ago indeed.
