Hi, k1host,

I got this same error and solved it as follow.

In my case the admin tool was pointing to a user which was not on the server.
I copy the similiar user with cp -r <original> <copy>
i chown and chgrp the user files into diradmin and then it works for me.

I am admin on the server and did this through SSH.

Why is your root user in directadmin?

User scsi makes a good point. Having DirectAdmin manipulate the root user could be a major security risk.
