I am very new to this. I was told that there should be an undelete function in case of an editing error. If it exists where would one look?

Undelete to what exactly ?

I don't know of any form of undelete, if you delete something in Linux, it will instantly be transported to the nice black hole called /dev/null, there isn't a 'recycle bin' like in Windows, as far as I know.

Actually it is possible to undelete files under linux, but it's much more likely a deleted file will be copied over quickly than on Windows because of the nature of how most linux filesystems manage unused space.

For a good primer on the subject, look here.
