Upgrade/update FC2

Hello We are using FC2, but there are no update for anymore.

It is possible to get my update's on a other way? I looked on the fedora website but can't find anything.

Or is it possible to update to FC4? And how can i do it?

Did you check the Fedora Legacy site?

You should be able to update to Core 4, but why would you want to; you'll just have the same problem every six months or so.

Instead bite the bullet and install CentOS for future isntalls; it's a free-as-in-speech, free-as-in-beer implementation of RHEL, and it gets updated for four or more years.

Thnx Jeff, I just checked de fedora Legacy site and i know that i can update from there. But i dont know how to (re) configure yum (or up2date)

I I reconfig YUM and it works, but i got a realy long list with updates. More then with up2date before. It is save to install everything?

(i've put de DA eclude line also in the yum config).

Most likely, all an operating system is, is a set of tools that make running your computer... easier.

You probably don't need stuff like kde openoffice for example

I have modified yum so it updates my system again (fedora core 2), however I get a huge list of updates after it. I don't seem to be able to make a selection out of it.

What command did you type to get that list?

The folowing its in my exclude list:
exclude=httpd* mysql* php* perl* apache* mod_* MySQL* *ftp* exim* sendmail* php* kernel* da_* bind*


The command is: yum update

if you do:

yum check-update

that will show you what is available for upgrade.

Then when you do:

yum update

it will show and as (y/N) whether you want to update the listed updates. Remove/exclude what you don't need if you something that you don't want.

By yum check-update i got:

[root@marnix root]# yum check-update

But thats the long list what you can see in my other post. I said 'No' for installing because i can't make a choice what i want or what in don't want.

It appears that you've got a lot of unnecessary programs on your server.

If they're already there they should be either updated or removed.

Removing them is a better option, but if you're not sure what to remove, I'd go ahead and update them.

Or find someone who can remove the unnecessary ones for you.

i think to do the update now and after that ik can remove the programs that i dont use. So it wil not be updated the next time, right?

-for example: openoffice/postgresql etc is not installed on the server, but yum want to update them

update should not try to install anything not already on the server.

So it appears to me as if those programs may be listed in your RPM database even if they're not installed on your server.

No the software (like openoffice or kde) is not in the rpm database.

I have take a look with thist commands:
# rpm -qa | less
# rpm -qa | grep *softwarename*

But i can't fin anything like kde etc.

I may be misunderstanding something you're writing then.

In any even, add the files you don't want installed to the exclude line and you should be good to go.
