Upgrading DA standards

Hello DA team,

Maybe this question is asked a thousand times but I was wondering:

On the website under the System Requirements I found what DA is installing as a standard. This list:

DirectAdmin
Apache 1.3.37
FrontPage 5.0.2.2510
PHP 4.4.6
phpMyAdmin-2.8.0.3
MySQL 4.1.21
Exim 4.63
Majordomo 1.94.5
vm-pop3d 1.1.7f
WU-IMAP
Proftpd 1.3.0

I'll take Exim and MySQL for my question. The version 4.63 is installed but Exim released 4.67 already. You announce the new version on the forum , the newsletter and give a source for DA in just a couple of days. Do not take this wrong because this is great :)
However for MySQL, I and many are still using the MySQL 4 version. This version is going to be gone soon. So I am planning to go for Mysql version 5.
But is this safe to use? The forum is loaded with threats of the upgrade but I do not see DA changing to these newer versions. Same goes for PHP 5. Is this a policy? Or can things go wrong in DA when you upgrade?

Tnx!

Dennis

Hello,

Yes, you can use mysql 5. All new OS's we develop DA for have it as standard.
We have a guide here: http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=137 to upgarde from 4.0 or 4.1 to 5.x.
Note that the mysql rpms we have are all stock and unmodified from dev.mysql.com, so you can always download the latest version from there.
