I have DA running on CentOS 4.7 32bit. I want to update too CentOS 5.x 64bit. I am using DA under very heavy load mainly as an email server with Maildir format boxes and in process of upgrade want too add RAID 1 drives.

Is there a step by step for an upgrade of this sort?

You can't do it in place. Back up important configurations, and then backup your users with the Admin Reseller backup utility. Move the backups somewhere off the server.

Rebuild the server.

Restore the backups.

Note that you may run into issues that will cause delays in the restore process. Be sure your users know in advance to expect downtime.

I'm not responsible if your backups don't work; be sure to check them before reconfiguring your server.

Since you're switching to RAID you may want to install new drives (they're fairly inexpensive these days) and save the old ones in case you need to get data from them or refer to them for some other purpose.

I really plan on doing it on totally new hardware. So it might go smoother?

Not necessarily smoother, but safer; should you run into a problem you'll still have the data on the old system.
