Upgrading to PHP5

I'd like to upgrade the PHP version on my server to 5 from 4.3.11. Is there any way to do this through the Direct Admin control panel or plug ins, or should I just do it the regular way, by using an RPM, etc. Are there any tutorials in the forum or in the knowledgebase that gives a step by step way to do it?
