upload file to server - ftp/other?

My directadmin server is running proftpd.
I use putty and ssh2 to log in as root and do stuff (that is secured already).

Need to upload files to my server now. Do I need an ftp client to do so? And if so, which one is recommended?

Also, if sftp or sc is also recommended instead, which client is good for doing this in place of or in conjunction with putty.

putty is really a combination of many tools. One of them is an sftp client and can be downloaded from their website.

It depends on what platform I'm working from. If I'm on my laptop I usually just use windows builtin ftp capabilites, otherwise I just use sftp.
