At http://www.directadmin.com/features.html, File Manager is described as: A user-friendly and fast alternative to FTP. Includes every feature needed to build and maintain a web site.
Any alternative to ftp is good because although ftp provides for userid/password login the userid and password are sent in cleartext which renders the login vulnerable to those jerks who listen to ftp login as a means to hack into private web space.
My web host is running DA v1.29.2.
How do I upload my scripts in ASCII mode using File Manager? It is claimed to include every feature needed to build and maintain a web site.
Tony's post to DirectAdmin Forums > Technical Discussion > General Technical Discussion & Troubleshooting > File Permissions help on 12-09-2003 where he asked the same question that I am posing here has not been answered. If File Manager is supposed to include every feature needed to build and maintain a web site then why is ASCII format upload not being provided by DA?
Most ftp clients provide for an auto setting that automatically provide the right upload mode ASCII or binary based on the file extension. It would not take much to implement such a feature in DA. .pl, .cgi, .js, .css files could be uploaded in ASCII and all other files in binary.
The early response to this post will be greatly appreciated.
