Users are not added under shadow files

I'm using Centos 5.2 for our directadmin installation. All the while the server is running fine and now i started to find out some odd.

Where as the new users i created under directadmin is not listed under the /etc/shadow files. And this has caused us unable to change the password via directadmin and also terminal.

So my temporary workaround is manually add the users under shadow files. and it works. But somehow I'm afraid this problem will come back again.

Anything i can do to solve this problem permanently?

All directadmin users are added like normal users and you can change their passwords with the passwd command.

That is odd. It's possible that somehow your shadow file has been turned off. Have you checked to see if your passwd file contains encoded passwords?
