It's sad to say, but I all the time I've been using DirectAdmin I haven't yet used ClamAV for antivirus protection on the server side. My question is... is this compiled into DA by default, or is it something I need to install myself? Currently I just upgrated Exim to 4.51 from 4.44, as well as SpamAssassin 3.0.3 from 3.0.2.

I'm now ready to look into adding ClamAV now that everything else is working great. Also what type of load impact does ClamAV have on the server? My server is a dual p3 1ghz with 1GB of ram.

ClamAV will be available with VirusBlocker, do out shortly.

It can impact server load heavily; we do not recommend using it without SpamBlocker, and we do not recommend it on underpowered servers.

Would a dual P3 1ghz (133mhz system bus) with 1GB of RAM be enough for ClamAV and SpamBlocker? If so how would that impact the amount of users I could have on it, etc?

Enough?

That would depend on how many emails you're getting for how many users, etc.

Our new servers are all 3GHZ, 1GB memory.

We may go to 2GB memory after we see what experience we have running VirusBlocker.

I may wait then. While the server isn't being impaled with email right now, I'd like to get my customer list growing which will accrue more email traffic.

My question is, if I was to install an additional server for email only, would there be a way to have DA on it and have it only service email without the mysql binaries etc etc. And instead have my main box point towards the second box for email?

Hi,

I'm using Exim 4.51 and ClamAV 0.84 (yes I need to upgrade) and also a little Eximscan. It works perfectly no complaints from customers and the email is scanned every time.

It can impact server load heavily; we do not recommend using it without SpamBlocker, and we do not recommend it on underpowered servers.

If there are emails bigger then normal the ClamAV is scanning them one by one and the email is delivered a little bit slower than normal. But then I'm talking in seconds. Do not know how many customers you have.......

I also have a 3 Ghz and 1 Gb RAM so use it! Saves you a lot of trouble and virusses!!
