Using DNS Gateway instead of Nomal Name Server

Hi

From the last server setup I found that using DNS Gateway will help all domains active much faster than using normal DNS name like ns1.myserver.com, ns2.myserver.com.

Any domains using Google Apps with DNS Gateway like yr1.yahoo.com or ns1.dns-diy.net will work immediately after restoring the backup files.

Any domains using NS1.myserver.com & NS2.myserver.com will have to wait more than 1 hour or more to work.

So, I would like to change all major customers's DNS to use DNS Gateway.

Anyway, from trying to config it without using Google Apps for days I can't find the solutions.

This is the requirement:

1. Use all DA Emails service by default.
2. Use DNS Setting in Gateway to replace all DA DNS Setting.
3. This means I'm still using internal Email Service.

Found Solution: I can set the web page & Receiving Mail to work properly.

Problems: Sending Mails always run but nothing send (Outlook 2010).

Question:
How I can set DNS Setting to work with Sending Mail?

Please see my setting in attahched files. The DNS is ns1.dns-diy.net & ns2.dns-diy.net:

Makes no sense at all. What is "DNS Gateway"?

Sorry if I can't give good meaning.

Each Domain Registrar, we can use DNS Management for each domain by specify A Record, CNAME, MX, NS or TXT. That domain must use the registrar's Name Server like Internetbs.net will be ns-uk.topdns.com, name.com will be ns1.name.com.

The user will give A Record the Server IP as in the picture. DA DNS needs time to Propogate the domains.

Using the registrar Default NS and A Record our domains will not be down as the NS is always online. When the server is run as normal the restored domains will be active immediately without waiting for DA update DNS.

I hope this can help u understand.

Thanks & Best Regards

That would only be because the TTL at the registrar is shorter than on your DA server. You can actually shorten the TTL on your DA server so that updates occur even faster than the registrar. See the knowledgebase on shortening the TTL.

We use a TTL of 600. We have multiple public-facing nameservers, one of them is always up. We update our nameservers every fifteen minutes from our DirectAdmin servers, which we treat as hidden masters.

Since we update only every fifteen minutes there is a resolution delay for new/changed DNS, but DNS for unchanged zones should always work.

You can follow our lead, you can have us manage your slave DNS for you, and publish our nameservers as your own, or you can implement the solution yourself.

Or of course you can do what many admins do, have two IP#s on your DirectAdmin server, use only your DirectAdmin server for public authoritative DNS, and wonder why people report that your DNS only works intermittently.

Now I'm using Registrar Default DNS (DNS Gateway as my understanding) to have fresh update as although the Web Server is down but the Google Apps Server is still working as normal. That's would be good in real life.

Please inform more information to follow. I'm having very few scope on what you are trying to offer me.

I think I see your DNS tools but I can't remember the name. Is this one you are talking about?

Thanks & Best Regards

Different registrars will call it different things. You are using your registrar's dns server is generic terminology.

Just remember you have to update this manually every time you add a domain in DirectAdmin or any time you change an ip address in DirectAdmin.

Yes, that's quite a lot of work and I face this problem before.

Anyway, The DNS Update is only a few minutes as DNS is not changed but only A Record is changed.

We need this only for VIP customers who don't use Google Apps. If there is no solutions I have to force them to use Google Apps to take advantage of this system.

If I found solutions I will post it in this forum for all.

This is the solution I'm looking for. See attached pictures for more details (top of Topic)

In the 2nd picture, Outlook shows sending mail is complete but in fact it's still in the OutBox no mail goes out.

Thanks & Best Regards

I'm not sure just what you want or need. By follow our lead I simply mean to do what I mention in my first paragraph.

If you need DNS service which won't go down you probably need at least two nameservers. I use a hidden-master setup, using my Master2Slave DNS Replicator to set it up. You can use it yourself to set up your own similar system (it's free and open source; complete references to it are published on these forums), or you can hire us or someone else to set up a system for you, or use someone else to handle your DNS.

Thanks to all

Finally I found the solution. I will post how to do in a new topic for jlasman to screen whether it should go to how to secion or not.

Anyway, I'm afraid that I can't explain DNS Setting or DNS Gatway in my meaning to other people to understand.

Thanks to DA Staff again for all valuable answer to hlep me get what I want.

I will try your Master2Slave when I finished my Backup Server testing.

Thanks & Best Regards

Anyone may post to the How-To subforum; posting there is not restricted. If threads are created to the wrong forum hopefully one of the moderators or administrators will notice and move them to the correct forum.

Remember that most of us who post and respond on these forums are NOT what you call DA Staff; we're simply users of DirectAdmin, who volunteer to post on these forums.
