Using IDN

Maybe this is a silly question, but I need to be pointed in the right direction:

I wish to use International Domain Names (IDN) in DirectAdmin, eg "müller.de".

Can I simply create the domain "müller.de"? I've notices that when I do this it breaks the FileManager (the directory "domains/müller.de" cannot be opened).

Or do I have to use the punycode version? eg "xn--mller-kva.de"?
When I create the domain as punycode, I should be able to 'dig' the domain itself right? eg "dig @nameserver.net müller.de".

Any information or slap in the face would be welcome!

DirectAdmin 1.32.3
Named 9.2.4

I cannot just sit and wait for an answer, so I've continued searching for myself.. And found out it's all quite simple :)

FYI: You need to add the domain as PunyCode to DirectAdmin.

In my search I discovered there is nothing special going on: It's the application an end-user uses that must support IDN (such as a browser). That application will convert your domain to PunyCode. From there everything is just ASCII (for PunyCode is a collection of ASCII sequences).

Good luck with this info!

Can someone please confirm this? I am in doubt on what to do myself, should I add IDN domains in DirectAdmin as punnycode or just straight out with the language special characters?

In my case it is about the letters æ and ø and å

Just adding the PunyCode version of your domain to DirectAdmin will do the trick. I'm using several productional IDN domains on DirectAdmin without any problems. But I can understand you want to hear this from someone else.

PS: Or you can just try it :) Nothing damaging can happen by adding the PunyCode version of a domain.

Thank you for comfirming this! I don't yet have any customers with IDN domains, but it is just a matter of time before I get one – then I now know how to handle it. Thanks again!

IDN stopped working

I have been using this too for my IDN , but now it has stopped working for 1 of my resellers? does anyone have a clue where to look after an error
