UTF-8 but still latin1_swedish_ci?

I'm a bit confuse.

Most of my databases are in UTF-8. Now I created a new database, installed a forum which uses UTF8MB4_unicode_ci.

But when I look into phpmyadmin, i still see latin1_swedish_ci at the bottom of the pages, is that correct? Why does it not say utf8mb4 there too?

Hello Richard,

That's a default charset for the DB itself. It's set on a new DB creation which is done by Directadmin.

One is the default database charset - it is used when you create new table and do NOT specify charset for it (it will use the database charset). The others are the specific tables charsets.
