Hi,

Now VMWARE has become for free (http://www.vmware.com/products/free_virtualization.html), i am thinking of setting all DA servers to VMWARE virtualisation.

Features of getting snapshots (hd images) on the fly from running virtual machines is very interesting.

When a server is down, it's quite easy to port the snapshot to another VMWARE server and start the virtual server on that new physical server.

Anyone has experience on that?

I have tested VMWARE on a desktop with setting up centos as virtual machines and it works really like a charm. Next step testing DA on it.

there is no problem for virtualization if you have a valid licence and os like fc3

yes i thought so,

maybe i good tip for DA: offering virtualisation licenses like cpanel & Plesk do (i think) !

Also question about VMWARE :

I believe virtual machines in vmware are hardware independent, what means that a failing DA virtual machine on for example intel P4 32bit can be ported to another server with for example dual xeon 64 bit. Of course the ported vm will run on the 32 bit os but will run perfectly on this 64 bit host machine with other hardware specs.

Can anyone confirm this?
