VPS and DNS

Hi, I am a little confused with DNS...

I install my first VPS, with Proxmox, and it works. But I have a problem with DNS, when I check domains.

So there is probably something misconfigured.

IP of VPS : 188.165.50.214 (installed on Centos 5 - 64bits)

What I want to do : do not buy a new domain for each VPS, and it is maybe the problem


I install DA, on subdomain server.winmoney4u.info, but it was a bad idea, because I use dynamic wildcard for this domain.

I modify in DA Administrator Settings like this :
Server's Hostname = vps102.3go.fr
NS1 = vps102.3go.fr
NS2 = ns.kimsufi.com

But, checking for DNS domain, i have this error :

---- fatal ----
f: The nameserver list doesn't match the given one

The given nameserver list (ns.kimsufi.com., vps102.3go.fr.) is not consistent with the one retrieved from the zone (ns1.winmoney4u.info., ns2.winmoney4u.info.).

    * vps102.3go.fr./188.165.50.214

When I test on http://showipaddress.com/index.php
I have this answer :

DNS Lookup Results [Clear]:
188.165.50.214 resolved to 188-165-50-214.kimsufi.com []

(if I check with zonecheck and this name, I have the same error)

So what is wrong ?

And another questions :
- is it possible to install DA without a domain name ?
- if possible, what is the best choice, to install next VPS for exemple with vps101.3go.fr ?

DirectAdmin needs only a hostname for it's installation. It doesn't need a domain name. Where is it asking you for a domain name?

We can't help you with your DNS resolution error unless you can give us the URL you used to check the domain either with zonecheck or with whomever else you checked it with.

Sorry, I forgot to give the domain name I am testing : winmoney4u.info
Now, I have some other errors, when I check DNS.

But : with another domain, it works (same configurations) : ngptp.fr
But : with another one, I have different errors : click-o-gains.fr
(for this one, probably just a problem of propagation of DNS, it is the last one I modify, and it is the previous server written)

So it was a misundestanding for me, between hostname and domain name.

So for next installation on VPS, I can just use vps101.3go.fr for exemple ?
This subdomain is registered with A => new vpserver IP

Your hostname can be anything you want; but it cannot be the same as a domain name.

For example, if you've got a domain name example.com, you can't use example.com for your hostname, but you can use host.example.com.

Whose nameservers are you using? Your own? Your hosts? If your hosts, how are they getting the information from your server?

You didn't give me any direct URLs to type in to check your domains so hopefully you will after reading this and then hopefully someone else will reply before I do next, as I'm about to log out of DirectAdmin forums.

Why do you put a space in the domains? Don't you want anyone to ever find your site?

Please, if you need me (as opposed to other viewers of the forums) to help, give me something I can copy and paste. Others may not be as picky, but I am; if I'm editing it's too easy for me to make a mistake.

First one is my "own" nameserver, second one is given by ovh.

Usually the problem is resolution, which is why we ask here for something we can try ourselves; our local resolving nameservers don't have the same cache as yours. All's well that ends well. Thread closed.
