So..I am a total nab, go easy on me plz :)
Sorry if this is not the correct forum also!

I rented out a VPS including DA,
I am only familiar with the user level on DA and a limited, perhaps even customized version.

A few questions, not sure if they all belong in the DA forums and not in a linux forum,
Anyway, here goes:

Running CentOS and the latest DA, have a few sites/domains, the only reason for VPS is I will be moving to dedicated,
But I can not afford a managed one...yet!

1) When I create a user account on DA, then with in the user level I point my domains to the user accounts http directory?
(which looks like http://ip/~user/)
1.1) is there something I need to verify 1st with my VPS host for this to function with several domains?
1.2) I am guessing not, but to double check, do we know if this type of structure impacts Google rankings at all?

2) I can access our VPS IP via http which points to /var/www/html which belongs to the main, root account, so my question is, is this safe?
2.1) Can I disable public http access to root via DA if it is a security issue?

Many, many thanks in advance!

Something of this kind. Directadmin does not allow creating accounts without domains, so you should specify one domain when creating a new user account. Then later you can add any number of domains to that user account.

You might need to read this: http://site-helper.com/

Do you really need it?

Might be related (not sure what you want to get here):

Not sure, why do you need to verify that with your VPS. But it's never a bad idea to make sure you don't violate TOS of your hosting provider.

Sorry, I'm not a SEO man, have no idea.

That is not root account, that's a default document root, where all shared PHP scripts for your usage are located. Among them you can find: phpMyAdmin, SquirrelMail, roundcube, etc.

That's not a root. That's not a security issue either.

Thanks ever so much for the info!, will follow up on all your links also, hopefully get my head round it all,
I have bookmarked your site for when we move, perhaps throw some business your way.

As for SEO, we have a site that ranks on 1st page, for almost any of our products, but its on a shared hosting setup,
So I assume the structure only needs to be with out sub folders, in the root of that domains http dir.
But if anyone knows anything else about all of this? I am all ears.

Thanks again!

So for any other novices out there, regarding SEO/Google's page rank,
Moving and or altering sites/domains/records/registrar/servers/IP is fine - as long as you avoid 404 Errors,
(Running both sites on both servers, till move is complete),
Google's page-rank for your site will stay the same, as reported by a Google official.
