I dont know if this is DA problem or my server problem or my hosting company DNS problem but i have it for first time.

I have setup many servers (VPS, dedicated, home servers, local network servers) but this is first time im using DA control panel and first time i didnt set opendns ips in /etc/resolv.conf

Most of settings on every server are same

On every other machine so far i always used opendns ip's in /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220

This time what is different on this server is that i used DA as control panel, and hosting .rs domains for first time, and in /etc/resolv.conf i used my hosting provider dns
nameserver 85.17.150.123
nameserver 83.149.80.123

And everything is setup fine on my server, and on domain registar but sometime some domains are not visible.
For example on intodns.com at same time if i check nifon.rs website i get
Nameserver records returned by the parent servers are:

ns1.bankerinter.net. [] (NO GLUE) [TTL=10800]
ns2.bankerinter.net. [] (NO GLUE) [TTL=10800]

When i check nifonsecurity.com i get
Nameserver records returned by the parent servers are:

ns1.bankerinter.net. ['85.17.122.1'] [TTL=172800]
ns2.bankerinter.net. ['76.191.99.167'] [TTL=172800]

Both websites are hosted on same server, 85.17.122.1 but one is not visible other is visible.

Is this something directed to wrong server configuration, or maybe i didnt setup something in DA, or its DNS error, should i change ips in resolv.conf back to opendns ip's.

In DA DNS administration both nifon.rs and nifonsecurity.com are set fine.

This is happening to other registered domains also.

Both are working now in my tests.

Jeff

Thats the problem and confusing. Sometimes and for some people they are all visible, and sometimes not.

I just checked nifon.rs on intodns.com and they say
ns2.bankerinter.net. [] (NO GLUE) [TTL=10800]
ns1.bankerinter.net. [] (NO GLUE) [TTL=10800]

But when i check website i can view website.

I dont understand what is happening and don't have explanation why is happening.

Generally NO GLUE errors mean that you don't have A records for your nameservers at your registrar. To get them you need to register your nameservers at your registrar.

Your domain bankerinter.net is registered at Network Solutions and their support department should be able to help you be sure your nameservers are properly registered.

I have actually 3 registrars. One is network solutions for .com .net .org domains, and other is rnids.rs (they are serbian domain name registrars) for .rs .org.rs .in.rs .co.rs and third is godaddy for other .com .net .org domains.

Network solutions are reporting everything ok with domains and a record, problem is .rs domains and some godaddy domains. I already updated all 3 registars and registered ns servers, so all 3 registars have ns1.bankerinter.net to ip 85.17.122.1 but problem still exist.

For example nifonsecurity.com is registered on network solutions and its working fine. Here are DNS values at my server in DA DNS administration

Code:
Name Type Value Select
ftp	A	85.17.122.1
localhost	A	127.0.0.1
mail	A	85.17.122.1
nifonsecurity.com.	A	85.17.122.1
pop	A	85.17.122.1
smtp	A	85.17.122.1
www	A	85.17.122.1
nifonsecurity.com.	NS	ns1.bankerinter.net.
nifonsecurity.com.	NS	ns2.bankerinter.net.
mail	MX	10
nifonsecurity.com.	TXT	"v=spf1 a mx ip4:85.17.122.1 ~all"

And nifon.rs is same website but domain is registered at rnids.rs and its not working. Here are DNS values at my server in DA DNS administration for nifon.rs

Code:
Name Type Value Select
ftp	A	85.17.122.1
localhost	A	127.0.0.1
mail	A	85.17.122.1
nifon.rs.	A	85.17.122.1
pop	A	85.17.122.1
smtp	A	85.17.122.1
www	A	85.17.122.1
nifon.rs.	NS	ns1.bankerinter.net.
nifon.rs.	NS	ns2.bankerinter.net.
mail	MX	10
nifon.rs.	TXT	"v=spf1 a mx ip4:85.17.122.1 ~all"

These all settings are added by default when some domain is added in DA.

Are all your domains using the two bankerinter.net nameservers? If so, it's those that need to be registered, at Network Solutions.

By registration I do NOT mean listing them with each domain. I mean registering them at Network Solutions. That means you tell Network Solutions the name of each nameserver, along with it's IP#, so they can set up A records at the root servers. You may need to contact their support group. Once this is done you'll have glue.

Once you have glue records all your domains using these nameservers should start working within 72 hours (it takes up to that long for the high TTL numbers at the registry to take effect over the internet).

Jeff

Yes i did that over a month ago. There are two options, one is registering nameservers, and other is setup nameservers(for domain).

Registering nameservers require to put ns and ip of that ns, in my case i registered ns1.bankerinter.net with ip of server

Setup nameservers is for domains, if domain is hosted on my server than it use ns1.bankerinter.net, if its not than i set ns of server where its hosted.

Then I don't know what more I can add. Are you having problems with only specific TLDs?

Jeff

Then I don't know what more I can add. Are you having problems with only specific TLDs?

Jeff

Jes i have problems only with specific TLD. So at the end after LONG talking with registrar i got answer.

Problem was at registrar and because i have only one IP and one ns address and registrar require to have 2 ns addresses they automatically add ns2 address with some other(random i guess) ip address.

I dont see that in settings because i have only one IP and i set only ns1, but they add it.

Ok that should be fixed because i ordered new ip for ns2 for my server. Now problem is i dont know how to add ns2 IP to my server in DA and update all 70 users i host there.

Add the IP# to your server as a nameserver IP# if you don't intend to use it for hosting. Then list ns1 and ns2 for namesevers at each domain using your server which only has one nameserver listed now.

Jeff

I get little confused now on how to add new ip and setup DNS for all websites because there are many places for DNS settings in DA.

» Admin Level >IP Management > here i add second ip for NS2
and now i have
first IP status "server" reseller "empty" users "72"
second IP status "free" reseller "admin" users "2"
(i must assign second ip to some reseller or otherwise i cant use it)

» Admin Level > DNS Administration > here are dns settings for all websites, and every template looks same now like this >
Name Type Value Select
ftp A 85.17.122.1
heartmovement.org. A 85.17.122.1
localhost A 127.0.0.1
mail A 85.17.122.1
pop A 85.17.122.1
smtp A 85.17.122.1
www A 85.17.122.1
heartmovement.org. NS ns1.bankerinter.net.
heartmovement.org. NS ns2.bankerinter.net.
mail MX 10
heartmovement.org. TXT "v=spf1 a mx ip4:85.17.122.1 ~all"
i guess i dont need to change anything here because every domain pull data from IP management for NS1 and NS2

» Reseller Level > Nameservers > and here i create NS1 and NS2 for my main domain.

Now i find settings here also

» Admin Level > List Administrators > admin > admin's user data > modify user admin > Change the User's IP > Add Additional IP > and i added second ip, and below that is > Current IPs > and i see both ip's, one as Main and second as Additional ip

I also found settings in » User Level > DNS Management > but this looks like its same as » Admin Level > DNS Administration > and template for that site.

If i go to » Admin Level >IP Management > and dont assign second ip to admin i cant use it, but if i assign it to admin, second admin (admin2) cant use it.

So im totally lost in all these settings and confused about setup, and i have 72 users to set NS2.

It's not easy to follow your email (at least not for me).

My recollection is thsat you can set up nameservers to use any IP# on your server, even if it's not assigned to anyone.

What happens when you try that?

Jeff

lonerunner, is ns1.bankerinter.net & ns2.bankerinter.net in your control ?
If yes, just add to bankerinter.net.db file:
Code:
ns1.bankerinter.net. IN A ip_of_ns1
ns2.bankerinter.net. IN A ip_of_ns2

and don't forget to increment value in SOA record from:
Code:
ns1.bankerinter.net. hostmaster.bankerinter.net. 2011012200 14400 3600 1209600 86400
to
Code:
ns1.bankerinter.net. hostmaster.bankerinter.net. 201101220[b][COLOR="Red"]1[/COLOR][/b] 14400 3600 1209600 86400

Then reload bind
Hope this help

I cant use it if its not assigned to anyone, i must assign ip to admin (me) to be able to set NS2 to this ip

lonerunner, is ns1.bankerinter.net & ns2.bankerinter.net in your control ?
If yes, just add to bankerinter.net.db file:

I added this and now i have second ip assigned to ns2.bankerinter.net, but all other records use only ip1

It looks like everything is working now, here is what i did if someone can follow me:

i went to
» Admin Level > IP Management > i added second ip, did "Clear DNS" for both ip's, than i assigned second ip to "admin"

Than in:
» Reseller Level > IP Management > i was able to see second ip, selected it and click on "Share selected"

So IP1 status now is "server" and IP2 status now is "shared"

Than in:
» Reseller Level > Nameservers > i see both ip's with empty nameservers field, i selected both and i did With 2 Selected IP's: Create NS1 & NS2 for bankerinter.net

I reloaded bind(named) and now i see this:

Name Type Value Select
bankerinter.net. A 85.17.122.1
ftp A 85.17.122.1
localhost A 127.0.0.1
mail A 85.17.122.1
ns1.bankerinter.net. A 85.17.122.1
ns2.bankerinter.net. A 85.17.122.57
pop A 85.17.122.1
smtp A 85.17.122.1
www A 85.17.122.1
bankerinter.net. NS ns1.bankerinter.net.
bankerinter.net. NS ns2.bankerinter.net.
mail MX 10
bankerinter.net. TXT "v=spf1 a mx ip4:85.17.122.1 ~all"

Now when i dig on server it shows like (i guess now) everything is ok.
For example:
dig @85.17.122.1 nifon.rs
;; QUESTION SECTION:
;nifon.rs. IN A

;; ANSWER SECTION:
nifon.rs. 14400 IN A 85.17.122.1

;; AUTHORITY SECTION:
nifon.rs. 14400 IN NS ns1.bankerinter.net.
nifon.rs. 14400 IN NS ns2.bankerinter.net.

;; ADDITIONAL SECTION:
ns1.bankerinter.net. 14400 IN A 85.17.122.1
ns2.bankerinter.net. 14400 IN A 85.17.122.57

So this looks ok.

i know im pain in the *** but 2 more questions :)
Do i need to add second ip to all users or no?
And do i need to add Reverse DNS to second ip?

i'm glad that my suggestion help you.

Do i need to add second ip to all users or no?
And do i need to add Reverse DNS to second ip?
No, second ip not needed for users, if they do not use this ip.
About rDNS.
your ISP or datacenter can change rDNS, just drop them request, no need to add rdns records to your domain.db file.

I believe that if you set up virtual nameservers the IP# doesn't have to be assigned to anyone as long as it works on your server, which it should do if you add it even if you don't assign it. You can check by pinging the IP# from the outside world.

To clarify rDNS a bit... adding it to your server won't work if your upstream (your provider, datacenter, etc.) hasn't delegated rDNS to you. Most don't unless you get at least a /24.

Jeff

i know about rDNS, my provider allowed me to manually setup rDNS via their control panel, i already have rDNS set to first IP. Im asking do i have to set rDNS to second ip also.
In DA DNS management i have this

Name Type Value Select
1.122.17.85.in-addr.arpa. NS ns1.bankerinter.net.
1.122.17.85.in-addr.arpa. NS ns2.bankerinter.net.
1.122.17.85.in-addr.arpa. PTR hosting.bankerinter.net.
Do i just change value of ns2 to new ip and add new PTR record with second ip ?

If you're setting up rDNS at your provider's control panel then you probably shouldn't be setting up on DirectAdmin at all.

If I'm misreading your post and your provider told you to set up rDNS on your DirectAdmin control panel, then you should have it set up once for each IP#.

Jeff

You read it right, my hosting allow me to setup rDNS by my self at their control panel.
So if i have this at my provider hosting control panel http://img402.imageshack.us/i/screenshotsgi.png/

Than i dont need to setup anything on my DA control panel, and i dont need this at all
1.122.17.85.in-addr.arpa. NS ns1.bankerinter.net.
1.122.17.85.in-addr.arpa. NS ns2.bankerinter.net.
1.122.17.85.in-addr.arpa. PTR hosting.bankerinter.net.

Just Note: Im on dedicated server and im administrator of DA installed on that server, so my hosting provider control panel has nothing with my DA control panel.
