What gets returned on Failed Login

Hi,
I was wondering if anything that I could use in an if/else statement gets returned when a user fails to use the correct password/username combination.

My goal here is to change a line of text when this happens, instead of adding more text, because the login form is fixed height.

Aren't they returned in an answer when you try logging in with API?
