What is the recommendation for OS for a new installation of Direct Admin?

Any new which fits you as admin to manage.
Alma9, Debian12, Ubuntu 22 etc.

Indeed like Zhenyapan say's.
An OS is not like a one glove fit all, like with a lot of things it depends on the person.
Some like banana flavor and some strawberry.
The most important is that it's a OS had a EOL (End of Life) that is far away and that it's compatible with DA of course .

I personally use Almalinux 8.9

yes. we also use Alma as lot of others too.

Yes, we also work with Almalinux 9 servers mostly and a few with 8.
