I have found that when ever spamd or clamd dies, emails take longer to come through (ie around 3 minute delay) while exim waits for a timeout.

As DA monitors other services, is it possible to have it monitor these two?

As when they die, the only way I know is when

1) I get a virus
2) I notice nothing is being marked as ***spam***
3) I check logs

I could just cron starting up spamd & clamd every 10 minutes - but I think that's a last resort.

Hi did you got this clamd service monitor working?

I am starting clam with this command
/usr/local/sbin/clamd start

that script looks good, but it would be worthwhile adding a file test on the first line if a .lock file exists. If it does then exit the script. If it doesn't then doe the email of the message that spamd or whatever is down. and create the .lock file.

This would be helpful in stopping you getting heaps of emails when u come in on a Monday if the thing stopped working over the weekend.
