hi, im currently on FC3, and Im looking for other OS to move over to.
I don't have much experience outside of Redhat so I'm not sure.

I can go to CentOS but only gripe about them is their packages are so outdated. Kind of like packages from the prehistoric days.

Anyways, which OS do you guys have most good reliable and easy to update experiences on it?

i'm currently leaning towards, Ubuntu, but, im not too sure if DA is even compatible with them?

You can always upgrade to newer packages, kernel manually
CentOS is very good OS with DA

CentOS is an enterprise OS. It's designed to be supportable for many years. You can't do that if you update to latest packages as they come out becuase you run into dependency errors.

So the Red Hat build team backports changes to what you call outdated packages. What features are you looking for in what packages? if they're important, chances are the Red Hat build team has backported them.

Most enterprise administrators appreciate this method of maintaining servers, but if you don't, well there are other solutions for you.

Some people have had good results with Ubuntu (search these forums), but you'll find the one version of Ubuntu designed for enterprise use will also have what you call "outdated packages" over time, and the newer ones will require you to rebuild quite often.

To use Ubuntu with DA follow instructions for Debian GNU/Linux, and check these forums for any issues.

Remember DA is written on Red Hat Linux; everything else is a port.

(CentOS is a freely available compile of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux source code.)
