Which OS to Install

Hello All,

I have a DA server currently running on RH9. I am looking to install a new server in a different datacenter and move all my clients to the new server.

My question is what OS would you install right now if you had a choice? RH9? CentOS?

Is DA compatible with CentOS right away? I am planning on installing the OS on the new box, then installing DA on top of the OS then backup all my users from the one box and move them to the new one and then decommision the old box.

Is this the best way to do it?

Thanks for all your help...

Regards,
Phil

DA is fully compatible with CentOS, and we've been using it exclusively for some time now. We're working on our first CentOS 4 install now.

Its personal preference (if your the one administering the servers).
Personally I would install Debian since that is what my servers are currently running for now and the foreseeable future.
Second choice would be FreeBSD.

Those are probably both very good choices for folk who are very familiar with them.

Phil's question seemed to me between RHL9 and RHEL/CentOS.

We all know by now how I feel about RHL9, right

Well I decided on Fedora Core3 with my colo provider recommending it. I am now waiting for DA to send me info on how to transfer my license to the new server.

Thanks everyone,
Phil

Did he have any reasons for recommending it?

Other than that he happened to have an ISO for it around?

Since Fedora Core 4 is already available it's unlikely updates will be available for Core 3 for more than another 18 months or so.

Your guess is probably right! He had the ISO. He also said many of his clients are using C3 with DA and not having any issues. I didn't want to fool around and go to C4 if it is not certified by DA yet.

I need to migrate the whole server over to the new one and I want it to be smooth....

Thanks,
Phil
