When a client is purchasing a package from our WHMCS instance, is there a way to allow the client to specify their own username for DirectAdmin, rather than it using the first 8 characters of the domain name? or to set it to their email address?

I'm asking because if a client buys two or three packages (websites) under their same WHMCS account, I want them to have a single pane of glass for all three sites. This won't happen if DirectAdmin is creating the username based on the domain URL they're specifying. They'd have a login for each domain, which is really cumbersome.

I think this is not good option because your 1 client have hosting example.com domain and he set its username example and your 2nd client have domain example.net and he want to set username example its not possible.
If you want this option in anyway you need to contact with WHMCS because this related to WHMCS.

You can set WHMCS to generate a random username instead. This is a WHMCS issue not a DirectAdmin problem. You would be better off in the WHMCS forum.
