I am not trying to start anything all I am wondering is this.

I have used webmin/virtualmin, ISPConfig, CPanel, and Interworx. I really like Interworx right now other then the fact that I can't run it on debian.

My question is compared to the top contenders and interworx, can someone tell me why directadmin is better in there opinion. I know these are strictly opinions. I am getting ready to purchase a new server and am trying to decide between interworx and directadmin.

Thanks

You should use the control panel you're most comfortable with.

Here are some of my reasons:

webmin/virtualmin doesn't allow paying end-user clients the ease and flexibility of control they need.

CPanel (and many others) don't allow the flexibility in software versions as DirectAdmin.

Neither do Plesk, Ensim, etc.

I'm not familiar with either ISPConfig or Interworx.

There is no reason i dislike DA.

DA is cheap and good, best value for the money.

Interwox is okay, but you need to pay annual fee. I also used Plesk but don't like it for many reasons. I used cpanel, feel so so.

most important things:

I've used DA over 3 years, it rock solid. DA itself is really problem free to me.

DA's tech suppot is top notch, I emailed them a few times, and always got valuable reply, they never charges it.

I also agree with jlasman : use the control panel you're most comfortable with

I've dropped cPanel once I tried DA 2 years ago.

- great DA staff
- very nice and helpful community
- stable and flexible
- reasonable pricing

I'm sure, DA would become the most recommended control panel for hosting providers.

Its the best...

I have licenses for 3 other control panels, I am now undergoing a server reformat to accomadate DA, I again wondered and tried yet another cpanel and the support, features and ease of use do not compare...
Now that is from an admin stand point...
Where directadmin really shines is when I have had 3 friends who have NO internet experience at all sit in front of a computer and set up an email account, and do other tasks while I watch... Thats all I had to do was watch.... They could figure things out by themselves.
This is important, I will give my clients top support for any reason.... but if I do not need to because something is so wll designed.... I can use my time other ways!

I use DA because it came at a reasonable cost with a dedicated server I have leased.

From my (small) experince with DA, I found it to be very fast and fairly intuative. Its well priced and has plenty of value added to it via the various plugins that people have offered/sold/etc. Flexability is dependent software versions is very nice too.

I don't like exim (purely a religious opinion, so don't ask me to justify), but I am getting use to that. Would prefer postfix, but oh well.

Some of the alternatives are some what bloated (in my opinon) compared to DA and they often use Qmail. Nothing wrong with Qmail, but it is starting to show its age. I have looked after a few Qmail installs.

I use to contract as a sys admin to a company that used H-Sphere, its a nice product, but it isn't well suited to a single server arrangment (which DA does very well). H-Sphere uses Qmail too. However, H-Sphere supports Windows and seems to scale nicely.

At the end of the day, you have to figure out what you want from the control panel and make sure it suites your needs. make sure it offers you want you want in 5 years as well as now. A lot of control panels look great at first but fail to grow where you might need it to be.

Just my 2cents. :)

I to have tried a few, started with cPanel, BUT bottom line ...support...and DA has got themselves set as #1, also this great forum and the members that help.
other features are security, price, features and ease of use like mentioned above, not only for you, but more important, the client.

For me DA is the best but some of the stuff said above I do not agree with.
'the best forums community' - I'd say that seems a biased view. Often times asking question on this forum is like banging your head against a brick wall.
In my experience the cPanel forum has more helpful members.
