hi
when we want to install cpanel.
it need 2 step :

download sh file
run setup

and this file do all need to install cpanel like:
yum update

and yum install/update all package it need befor install cpanel

but on directadmin .server administrator must run yum update befor run directadmin setup

also :

yum -y install flex (or other needed lib)

i think its better .dierctadmin sh file run this command befor start installing directadmin and (apache-php and ,,,)

tnx

What if the administrator does not want to use yum to install anything? What if the administrator wants to compile everything from source? Running yum could break things.

No. I do not have to accept your letter. For example, the following libraries to install Direct Admin is necessary when we want in Direct Admin VPS Install :
flex gcc-c++ gcc g++ make
But why when you run installer, installer does not install these libraries, and we have to manually install?
yum -y install flex gcc-c++ gcc g++ make

I think after questions are asked during installation, such as license and configuration of PHP and ... command must also run by the Direct Admin
(yum -y install flex gcc-c++ gcc g++ make)

We must build a program that has the best performance.
CPanel with two command" download and install" , is installed.

I recently happened on a Direct Admin to run the installer and after a few hours to see the back of my system: prerequisite libraries, are not installed. This means loss of time.

Well we have writed a .SH file that we execute before we start installing DirectAdmin. Its just 5min more work, then without.

I dont need to have it automatic

@nimafire:

cPanel is a bit easier to install. It's also a lot less flexible as reported by a lot of users who say they can't do the maintenance their own way.

We did what daveyw did.

Why doesn't DirectAdmin staff do it? I'd guess because there would need to be lots of different scripts to account for different install, OS versions, etc. You get a lot of flexibility with DirectAdmin. But you don't get a script that can figure out everything an administrator should be able to figure out based on his/her unique needs.

Take your choice :)

Jeff

Like I have said many times when people want to compare cpanel functions to DirectAdmin; If you want cpanel functions then use cpanel. That is why we have choices.

Hello
In any field, I Prefer Direct Admin Panel User Preferences to Cpanel and after a few years I continued to work with Direct Admin almost completely dominant to different parts of the system and software I am. Talk is a question that I have users. You're opposed to user-friendly?
If I only comment is that users need to see progress and cpanel is the ideal user.
like apache/php compile GUI performance.
New Module and most administrator tools like as i told you latter

I use both Cpanel and DirectAdmin. I offer both to my customers. 99% of them choose DirectAdmin over Cpanel. I believe for myself that DirectAdmin is more user friendly. Its hard for me to do anything for myself with Cpanel. Cpanel wants to do everything for me.

You're opposed to user-friendly?

Absolutely not opposed. That is why I do not like Cpanel as much. Cpanel is NOT user friendly in my opinion and in the opinion 99% of my customers.

These are just facts. When given a choice it has been my experience that customers choose DirectAdmin for its ease of use over the complexity of Cpanel.

I believe in giving my customers a choice between the ease of use of DirectAdmin and the popularity of Cpanel. If DirectAdmin becomes like Cpanel then there is no more choice.

yes floyd you right.
but see.cpanel have lots of option and module that admin can use them by simple click.
on directadmin on most case admin must use ssh.
on this case i think directadmin is good.
Maybe you and me work well with Direct Admin. But users and facilities according to their appearance. Something that I think Direct Admin has done really weak

DirectAdmin is designed for knowledgeable administrators who are comfortable with their servers.

That's why ait can be flexible.

CPanel is designed to manage more, but is limited in it's flexibility.

Not to mention the difference in the complexity of the control panels themselves.

Jeff

Ye. you right, but can directadmin develope more on userfriendly module and option?
its my request.(template and ... )

on admin level. i can do any thing with directadmin and accept your idea about directadmin ;)

Directadmin installation is just very easy. The yum is only one little step more, and i think that no all OS uses yum.
But yes, it will be great to update yum and install gcc libs, a least just for centos/fedora, on DA setup.

1 example)

on whm/cpanel you can compile php/apache with every version and module you want.
but on direct admin you must login on ssh and ... .

Exactly. That is a perfect example of why DirectAdmin is better.

TNX floyd from you r reply
can you explan me more about why is directadmin is better in this case?

Post #5. DirectAdmin gives more flexibility. Its already been explained many times. I am not going to go through all the details yet again.

What is better for one person is not better for another. Some who insist that something should be a certain way cannot accept that. I on the other hand accept it. One type of user should use Cpanel and another type should use DirectAdmin. But neither should try to be like the other. They are different products.

If you like Ford then drive a Ford. If you like Honda then drive a Honda. But do not expect Ford to become like Honda. Different products for different people. I believe in having choices and that is what I provide for my customers.

Look at it this way......its like saying that CPanel wipes your bum for you, where as DA doesn't, it lets the admin be an admin and not someone wants to be an admin by-proxy (a wannabe).
