Zen, Cloud, Dedicated and Others

Hello all,

We are using cloud servers for our systems.
Recently we are thinking on moving to dedicated servers which will be powered by xen and host several guest servers according to dedicated server limits.

One of our service provider responded that the dedicated server option with xen or vmware won't be trusted as a cloud server alternative.

We thought that it would be better to control our resources with lower fees.
But the disk, bare metal and several other issues which were mentioned by the service provider confused us.

What would you recommend ?

Hello,
For a saving plan, I suggest you to use dedicate rather than cloud.
If your system not require 99.99% online, you can use dedicate server and have a good backup plan, that will be ok.

But for safer, you'd better to use Cloud because:
- Cloud server mean "data will be safe and in one place", other resources like RAM, CPU will be depending on Physical server that serving your system.
- When hardware failure (ex a physical server in cloud network that your system is running), then your system will be automatically move to other physical server, give you less down time than dedicate server.

Hello,

I agree, when using a dedicated server you should be ready to have downtimes if any part of your server fails or crashes. Depending on a DC you might have a downtime from an hour or two upto several days. To offer a dedicated server with a low monthly fee they might give you an used HDDs in an used server. Hardly they will tell you how more hours will the HDDs and other parts run without a failure.

So I'd recommend a VPS or cloud VPS. There are some reliable companies to pick up from.
