dns settings aren't right

Hai,

I made a domain in directadmin with the following dns settings:

ftp A 89.18.164.73
localhost A 127.0.0.1
mail A 89.18.164.73
messtuff.com. A 89.18.164.73
pop A 89.18.164.73
www A 89.18.164.73
messtuff.com. NS ns1.pcextreme.nl
messtuff.com. NS ns2.pcextreme.nl
mail MX 10
messtuff.com. TXT "v=spf1 a mx ip4:89.18.164.73 ?all"

Now I own a domain name (barclaysmarket.nl) that I would link with this domain messtuff.com

the setting of the domain name are:
barclaysmarket.nl TXT v=spf1 a mx ip4:89.18.164.73 ? 3600
barclaysmarket.nl SOA v1.pcextreme.nl hostmaster@pce 4800
barclaysmarket.nl NS v1.pcextreme.nl 3600

barclaysmarket.nl MX20 mx20.pcextreme.nl 3600

What am I doing wrong? because when I type www.barclaysmarket.nl I see the same page when I am typing 89.18.164.73

There are several ways to do this. But if you are trying to do it with DNS then I think you want CNAME records.

Also messtuff.com does not resolve to 89.18.164.73

So I am not sure what you are trying to do.
 
Just adding DNS isn't enough unless the IP# is dedicated to messtuff.com. If it's not a dedicated IP#, then you have to create an alias for barclaysmarket.nl pointing to messtuff.com on the server where messtuff.com is hosted.

Ok I added the next:

barclaysmarket.nl. CNAME messtuff.com.

But it isn't working....
 
You did it on these nameservers:

You still have A records for barclaysmarket.nl.

Is v1.pcextreme.nl your server? If not then any records on your server do not matter and cannot be controlled by directadmin. Whoever manages v1.pcextreme.nl will need to change your dns settings. DNS changes have to be done on the server that handles dns which are v1.pcextreme.nl, v2.pcextreme.nl, v3.pcextreme.nl.
 
89.18.164.73 is the ip of my server.

these lines I cannot change:
barclaysmarket.nl NS v1.pcextreme.nl 3600
barclaysmarket.nl NS v2.pcextreme.nl 3600
barclaysmarket.nl NS v3.pcextreme.nl 3600

The rest of the lines I can change so what lines do I have to delete or add?
 
Why can't you change these lines?

Do you control pcextreme.nl? Is it running on your server? If not, then as long as the nameservers for barclaysmarket.nl are being controlled by v1.pcextreme.nl, then you can't fix the problem because you don't control the nameserver.

The pcextreme.nl nameservers are pointing barclaysmarket.nl to 89.18.164.73 while messtuff.com is pointed to 85.92.129.200. These don't look like the same server to me.

No messtuff is set up as a domain on my server.
the site messtuff.com is still online on another server thats why the ip 85.92.129.200...you have to agnore this.

so I wanted to try to set up a domain (messtuff) on my new dicated server and point the domain name barclaysmarket to it.
 
Do you have the entire domain set up on your new server? If so, then please post the contents of your /etc/resolv.conf file.

I am not sure but I think he has messtuff.com on an old server and he has also created it on a new server. He wants barclaysmarket.nl to show the contents of messtuff.com on the new server. That is what I got out of it. I could be wrong. I don't think he is ready to switch messtuff.com over to the new server yet.

That's right! but now the question...with what dns settings can I switch?

I am a little bit futher......

these are my settings at the server:

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName www.barclaysmarkets.nl
ServerAlias barclaysmarkets.nl
DocumentRoot domains/ringtonesxtra.com/public_html
</VirtualHost>

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName www.barclaysmarket.nl
ServerAlias barclaysmarket.nl
DocumentRoot www/domains/messtuff.com/public_html
</VirtualHost>

But both domains: www.barclaysmarket.nl, www.barclaysmarkets.nl are pointing to the rootmap what I have said to be the defauld map. how can I fix that they both point at two different maps?

Did you do these manually? Have you tried restarting apache?

Why do barclaysmarket.nl and www.barclaysmarket.nl (no s on the end) both look at the document root www/domains/messtuff.com/public_html My understanding is that this path shouldn't exist anywhere by default.

My paths look like this:
