Configuring DNS

Hi,

I recently bought a VPS service from provider called rosehosting. They configured system and Direct Admin for me.

Right now I using the name servers from them but i want to configure my own. I already registered ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com at my register. Do I need to configure any other thing in any other server? I mean the name server from my provider or my own?

I asking because some hours later I can't do ping or access my name server from any location.

What I'm missing?
