Can't remove directory containing files

All I want to do is remove an old gallery directory with sub directories and files. I'm trying to use the DirectAdmin FileManager, but when I select the delete checkbox, click delete and then the ok confirmation, I get the message below:

Unable to delete directory <mydirectory> The directory <mydirectory> is not empty

use rm -rf , Deletes a directory by SSH

but you must be careful with rm -rf because it is not give any wanning before deleting and it is permanent delete
