Hi everyone,
My license will be expire in next couple of days and as I bought it from third party by mistake (was my first and last experience) now I need to buy and active from DA but the seller said if I renew my license from DA then I lose my data and then stop server working ! For this reason I need more help and support from you guys (really appreciate) because I really don't want to continue with that third party as it's really risky for me. Could you advise me how I can buy the personal plan for 24month directly from DirectAdmin without the losing data or any affect of my server's data?
I need transfer all data of my account to admin then downgrade to personal.
Thanks in advance for your time and your advise.
Please find attached screenshot.
Kind regards
Kourosh

Hi,

its never a good idea to buy licenses for a server from a third part, but ok, you know it already.
Lets wait what a admin is saying to this. But why should you loose all your datas? I guess you would only need to activate the new license on your server.

And the other question... do you make not yourself backups of your datas on a backup server or a cloud, when your server datas are so important? If am correct, then you only have 7GB datas, so download them to your computer, that you are definitely safe!

Hope a admin can help you fast out. Good luck 2 you.

As far as getting a new License. You can contact sales https://directadmin.com/pricing.php. Down at the bottom. Especially if you need to report any shadiness.. I think you could just set up an account online and manually move the license (as Below). However since you nor I am sure of any shadiness its best to contact DA directly.

for merging you can follow this
and maybe theses as well.

To manually update your license to the new one you should be able to use this once you get a new account.

Also like alwaysbusy said to do a full Admin backup of all of your data and move it to your PC or some other safe place.

I hope this helps.

Welcome to the Real DA community BTW.

Hi Brent,

I really appreciat for your warm welcome and your great support. (I saw your kind helps to other users and I'm so glad to helping me as well)

I got one user but not sure it's under admin account or not because all my data in that user. I try to purchase from DA but in the last step said: ** We do NOT suggest installing DA onto a server with installed data. That's why I afraid to countinue.

Anytime and I am a regular guy just like you.. so we all need to lean on each other the world over...

because all my data in that user.
When you do Show all Users in the Admin area what do you see?

We do NOT suggest installing DA onto a server with installed data.
They don't want you to Reinstall over your existing data. That would be bad. You are not going to run setup unless you are leaving for another VPS vendor? If you are getting a new server then just get that then buy a license and set it all up a new and transfer your data.

So as long as you buy the license and don't run the setup on the server. You just have to do the https://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=30
If you need to update your DirectAdmin license manually, you can do so by entering your information, then running the following commands:
Client ID (uid):
License ID (lid):
IP address:
cd /usr/local/directadmin/scripts
./getLicense.sh 123 1234 <<<< This will be the new server account and license.
service directadmin restart

Where 123 and 1234 are your Client ID and License ID, respectively. If there are errrors extracting the update.tar.gz file, then run:
head -n 1 /usr/local/directadmin/conf/license.key

to search for an error. If there is an readable error inside the file, double check the IP you are using matches the IP in the license on our system. Also check that it's active in our clients section. Failing that, you'll need to contact [email protected] to get your license activated or updated.

It kind of why I said email sales and depending on when your license expires you need to email them soon.. There are in OHH CANADA...

I really don't want to continue with that third party as it's really risky for me.
Do you just mean you have a License only with them or the server as well? What are you wanting to not continue with?

oh ps, What great country of the world are you in?

how I can put all users in admin
You can move users this way:

If you still have a user under admin, you still can't change to personal license, that user has to be deleted first, only admin may exist.
You might use this to transfer the domain to admin:

Please wait one night so all tallys have run and on the existing user nothing exists anymore. Also doublecheck that all databases present for this user are also transferred to the admin. You might have to change the login credentials and database name, as it's not user_dbname and user_dbpass anymore but admin_dbname and admin_dbpass so watch that carefully.

You have to ask sales to be sure, but if I'm correct, if all is set to admin, the only thing you have to do is to change the uid and lid of your license.
However, I've also seen issues that a new license could not be created because the ip already existed (due to the 3rd party), so I would certainly suggest you contact sales@directadmin by mail anyway and ask them for advise. You can for example also point them to this thread.

I need wait to expire the old license or I can purchase now? If yes, from where? because if I purchase from https://directadmin.com/pricing.php then reinstall it.

That's a seperate user (only admin created it, that's why you see admin next to it), when going to personal that should not exist anymore. You would only see:
admin root
and -maybe- reseller admin, nothing more.

Hello Richard,
Thanks for taking time to help me. Could you please check that screenshot which is I uploaded above and let me know is that user under admin or I need to transfer it?

I will do. Thanks Richard.

Also it looks like you have data under admin as well.

I think you should use this. To consolidate it all under admin. @Richard G do you agree? He wants it all under admin
Moving data between accounts
The last option is the most difficult, but allows both accounts to remain, while moving data between them. It's not great to move non-domain specific data, like cronjobs or databases, but not impossible.
  1. Step one would be to move all domains from fred to admin. This guide can help with that.
  2. Moving non-domain specific data, we can first move database data for each database name, using this guide.
  3. Moving crons between Users does not currently have a script. The simplest (assuming direct_crons=1is enabled) is to, as root, type:
    crontab -u fred -l
to list all crons, then edit the admin crons list
    crontab -u admin -e
and copy/paste the output into the editor, and save. There may be other non-domain specific data, like ssh_keys, but the other methods above may be a better choice should that much detail be needed.

I already answered. ;) We're quick. :)
You have to transfer it and remove the user afterwards. Take good care that everything is done and user is really clear afterwards.

I see. I need transfer it under admin then ...
What is the easiest way to transfer it?
If my DA license expired then whats happening because it's will be expire on 27th June 2020

edited to be correct It keeps working as RichardG said below. You just cant update. but sales could help you get it back. It's not going to auto-delete. I have never had a license expire though..

Oh gosh. I don't think have enough time to do this. I guess better to stay another one year with them because I think my server will be down. Is DA team can help me with charging me? What do you think guys?
