Hi,

I’m new to direct admin and i will be migrating from cPanel to direct admin.

I want to add more than 2 name servers up to a total of 6. How can I add them easily ?

Thanks in advance.

So this means though DA offered reseller accounts but they didn’t allow private / white label name servers for resellers ? Weird.

Glad to see that DA starts with implementing in 1.62.9 version for adding more than 2 NS in panel without messing in templates :)

I'm not native English, so I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. But a reseller can have is own nameservers. I don't see any issue there.
I don't quite understand what this has to do with 6 nameservers? Normally a reseller doesn't need more then 2 as far as I know, so having 4 nameservers would already be very nice.
But again... I might misunderstand something here.

Hi,

I am merging 2 different cpanel servers into 1 DA server. So on cpanel server 1 clients were using different name servers and on cpanel 2 clients were using different name servers. I don't want them to change name servers. So if I can specify upto 6 name servers then it will not cause problems for anybody :)

Hope I make sense.

Thanks.

Hope I make sense.
I'm almost there I think.
So if I'm correct on cpanel 1 (to call it that way) you were using NS1, 2 and 3. And on cpanel 2 you were also using NS1, 2 and 3 but other ones. This is the only way I can see 6 nameservers. Let's call those NS4, 5 and 6 to make the example easier.
You want to migrate both those cPanel servers to 1 DA server.
There is no way you can set 6 nameservers under 1 DA account.

But if I'm correct with this then the solution is very easy.
You can use either 2 admins or 2 reseller accounts for this.
Maybe 2 admin accounts is the easiest way.

For admin1, setup ns1, 2 and 3 and use his reseller level to migrate all the cpanel1 accounts with ns1, ns2 and ns3.
For admin2, setup ns4, 5 and 6 and use his reseller level to migrate all the cpanel2 accounts with ns4, ns5 and ns6.

Problem solved, correct?

Or am I still missing something?

Hi,

If i go this way, how will apps like Jetbackup etc will work which are configured to take backup of "admin" users ?
I think instead of doing workarounds, directadmin should work quickly add such functionality. I have moved my 1 cpanel server aleady and though its fine, but I'm not sure about the other one as nameservers are going to be an issue.

Thanks.

It's not a workaround, it's rather default for years like this. Not many hosters are using so many nameservers and even if they do, if hey all have different geo locations as should be. Because otherwise I wouldn't know why so many were needed. But that's a personal question.

Jetbackup should also be able to configure creating backup for multiple users/admins and not only 1 admin account. Even cPanel and Plesk can have more admins. So that also has it's limitations then.

However, there are at least valid needs and it's quite normal these days to have 3 or 4 nameservers, which isn't even possible easily at this moment.

To be able to get this, you can best put in a feature request at the special feedback forum of Directadmin.
Upvoting by others can cause some things to be put in with more priority.

The locations in DirectAdmin where the NS records will be used, are specified at:
  • Admin Level -> Admin Settings -> ns1/ns2: The main nameservers for the box. Use to give to new Admins and Resellers, and for fallback values. The IPs that these resolve to are the IPs used for "virtual" nameservers at the Reseller Level.
  • Reeller Level -> Nameservers -> ns1/ns2 (bottom set): The default values that are given to newly created Users created by this Reseller.
As an "Admin", these values will be given to a new Reseller if "personal dns" is not enabled.
  • Reseller Level -> List Users -> username -> ns1/ns2: The default values that are given to newly created domains by the User.
All of these settings ultimately end up changing just the NS records of a domain, so by changing the NS values manually, that's all that really matters.
