Hi,

More and more it happens that a user (non admin) registers to the forum without knowing it's ment for Admins only.
These people just register on the forum, ask there question and then sometimes get faced with the answer "Admins only, go and ask your hosting company".

This is of course not fun for the user, but sometimes other admins invest time in a topic to later find out they cant solve it because it's a user.

What if there would be a checkbox when register for a account that states "I declare that i'm an admin of a server, and not a user" or something.

Will this solve 100% of the "issue"? no of course not, because people cant / don't want to read. But some individuals will consider to register or not.

----------------------

Also, it's common for people to make (hopefully) a google search for there problem, and they find a topic that looks kinda the same like there issue;
The only problem is that the topic is from 2020 and not relevant anymore, it might be an idea to make a "warning" where you can submit your reply to the post like

"The last post to this thread has been ... days ago, are you sure you want to post your reply here? otherwise click here to open your own thread"

Yep happend several times, helping people by DM/PM and later in the process I found out that it is an end user, even asking several times if they where an admin or owner of the server.

Same here. Via forum and PM.
We could open a feature request for it, but it's just better that it's clearly stated during registration.

I personally don't mind post being upped from 2020 or later, but often 2011, 2015 and so much is changed in so many years.
There might be an addon which gives a warning that a post is older than xx days or months/years or whatever, with the hint to better start a new thread because much is changed and often the cause of an issue is still different even if it looks the same. Just like @ericosman said.

However, at least making a clear notice during registration that the forum is for admin and reseller support and not for hosting customers would be already a big improvement and easy to do.

Another control panel used to have a custom field that users could select when registering:

Access Level:
Website Owner
Reseller Owner
Root Administrator
Datacenter Provider

Something like that, that shows up on posts, would be handy, like this:

Great idea, however, website owner should not be one of them imho. Hosting companies should give support to their customers otherwise it will get too busy here anyway.

I don't know if it does make a lot of difference if it's known if you are a root admin or datacenter provider, because both are entitled to forum support. But I don't mind having it as user or access level.

Xenforo has a load of options which can helps us help others better by making things more clear.

The number of times I had tickets from customers asking about things that were already in my knowledgebase.
