Hi,
My name is Lois.
A friend of mine asked me to revamp her site.
I am able to log into her File Manager just fine.
The problem is...
I've never used C-Panel.
Another lady built her first Website for her.
So, since I'm not familiar with this at all.
I am so totally lost.
I don't know how any of it works.
I want to be able to redo her site.
But how do I do it?
I'm assuming you have to use FTP..
Which, unfortunately, I've never used either.
I can't tell what files in her file manager...are what?
I'm use to webspace where I can see each individual page.
And that's not the case with C-Panel.
Also, when I go to her website.
It gives me a 404 Error...
I can't even view her website now.
The url is http://www.grandonhouse.com
I was hoping this system would be like other's I've used.
Allowing me to work on each page seperately.
But if I'm getting this right...
Would I build her webpage offline...
The whole thing... entitle it" index.htm
The upload using FTP...
If there's another way around it...that would make me happy.
I hope I've posted this question in the right folder.
Thank you and any help would be truly appreciated.
Hugs, Lois L. Collis

Ahem.

C-Panel ?

This is the DirectAdmin forum.

Are you looking for help with C-Panel or with DirectAdmin?

Jeff

Yes,
It would be the DirectAdmin.
But isn't this a C-Panel type program?
It's all so confusing.
I've looked at tutorials etc.
But can't figure out how to upload a site etc...
Thank you for responding.
Hugs, Lois :p

Rob, Thank you :)

Rob,
Thank you...
I'll take a look at those sites.
Maybe they'll answer my questions? I hope :)
Again, thank you.
Hugs, Lois :):)

David Thank you :)

I'm still trying to figure my way around this forum...lol
It's different than the forums I'm use to...
So, in other words...I can do the content of the site.
Upload it through file manager later on...
Do, I name the site content index.htm?
That's what is really confusing me...
Cause there is alread an index.htm there.
I'm assuming this has all the files to the site.
But I can't see all the files to be sure...
Again thank you for the links :)

Hugs, Lois :)

Hey,

"index.xxxx" is simply the first page of the site. (xxxx can be .php, .htm, .html, etc.)

Generally, the "index" page is just that... The index to the site... It's just one page in the site.

Usually, the index.xxx will have links to othr pages in the site.

So, ALL of the .htm or .php or .html, etc. will comprise the entire site.

That's a very simplistic explaination.

Cause there is alread an index.htm there.

OK, then something else must be wrong as the site doesn't pull up.

David

David...thank you again :)

Sorry, I'm just now getting back to you.
I've been really busy :) urghhh...
Okay..that's what I thought.
Do you understand what could be wrong?
I haven't been able to access her site in about 2 weeks...
And it was there right before then...
Okay...
One other question.
I see her index. there...
How can I pull up to see how where the other pages are listed.
Oh and another question....
When I want to add a page...
I think that's confusing me the most.
I see her index.html
That is the main page...
But I can't see where any of the other pages are there...
But I know they are...if that makes sense?
I guess I'm trying to figure out.
How to make changes.
Would I need to totally delete her index?
Make a new one.
Then upload the new pages and name them individually.
That's what I'm use too...
But I can't see where and how you do that with this system?
Again, thank you for all your help////
Hugs, Lois :)
