Admin Lockout

i have a problem where the admin login has stopped working

Ive tried to reset the pass and get the following error:

passwd admin --force
Changing password for user admin.
New UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: Authentication token manipulation error

how can i correct this

i have restarted directadmin via shell incase there was an issue but this has not resolved it

anyone have any ideas?

I think I'd be looking through /var/log/messages to see if there's any segfaults happening - sounds like it could be a bad drive starting
