This is the second time this has happened to me and I find it very strange. Yesterday my admin password was working and today it is not. I thought no big deal, logged in via ssh and passwd admin, changed it back to the same one it was and nothing. So I rebooted the server, first time in 209 days which I believe was the last time this had happened. I really wish I remembered what I did to fix it last time as I remember being frustrated for a long time. This is on my Lenny server, if that helps. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on a solution?

I imagine that some have root access like you have, and will not hack you, but just annoy you. Change the root password and wait for the results.

Preferably use a difficult password for example; name-SoMething_1

Doubtful, but ok

So my root password has been 12 characters with upper/lower case and 3 symbols...I made a new one to try this...but the real question is why can't I gain access to DA control panel after I change the admin password?

I wish it were that simple...I have tried on multiple computers/operating systems and browsers and it just says invalid password.

I will try support...and I am using debian lenny so it is /etc/pam.d/common-password but that already has md5...

Genius!

Thank you, that was the problem last time too. I have directadmin folder on it's own 3.5 GB partition. Is there anyway to get it to clean up after itself enough that it won't fill that up?

Nevermind

I had the system backups going to that same partition...thanks again for all your help.

I don't see an option on this forum to close a thread, but NRN
