API for vacation/autoresponders

Has anyone set this up at the user level? Any suggestions how to implement this into a site so users can access it?

I am looking at using the vacation message on my main site.
However, I am wondering if there is any way to have the user that is going to submit the vacation to validate with their email address and password. This would keep people from randomly coming to the site and setting up peoples vacations messages (some people do this as a joke...u know?)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
