I just set up a majordomo list and the subscribers are getting the following error when they post:

> XX.XX.XX.XXX does not like recipient.
> Remote host said: 550 authentication required
> Giving up on XX.XX.XX.XXX.

I've got SpamBlocker set up in my exim.conf and wondering if there's an exception I need for majordomo?

TIA

Are they already subscribed to the list? If so do you see any errors in /var/log/exim/mainlog or /var/log/exim/rejectlog

In the main log I see lots of this:
2008-08-05 21:52:50 1KQYB2-00028M-Rw -> [email protected] <[email protected]> F=<[email protected]> R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp S=966 H=e.mx.mail.yahoo.com [216.39.53.1] C="250 ok dirdel 28/0"

Which I believe is outgoing majordomo traffic. I can not find anything in the reject log that references the list other than one righteous SPAMHAUS reject.

I've had this server over a year and this is the first mailing list that I've set up on it. May be a DA config issue.

OK - I just tried to post to the list from an account outside my server and it was rejected "550 Authentication Required". There are no entries in either log. If I post thru my smtp account on the server, it goes through to the list.

How are users posting to the list? They should not be using your server, but rather the smtp server they usually use for email.

Jeff,

They post(or at least attempt) to the list by sending an email to the majordomo list address [email protected]

I'm not that familiar with majordomo and was planning to use it as a temporary measure while I replace my list server. I had used in on another machine running DA with some issues, but at least subscribers could post. Is it possible that Exim isn't picking up the majordomo aliases?

Edit to add: RE: Post 4 above, that attempt to post to the list was through a Lotus Notes Server. I'm note sure how exim could mistake that for an smtp attempt.

Do those XXXs refer to your system's IP#?

It's really impossible to test and help figure this out if you can't be more specific.
