autoreponse question

I'm wanting to eliminate an e-mail address that I get to much SPAM on. I want to set up an autoresponder that writes back to notify valid e-mailers of this change.

My question is, I've set up the autoreponder as [email protected] with a message. But when I send an e-mail there, I don't get a response. Do I actually have to set up a pop e-mail account of the same name? I was hoping not to, because the e-mail will pile up over time.

You should not have to set up a popbox.

I just tried, creating only an autoresponder, with no mailbox, and I sent an email to it.

I got back the contents of my autoresponder.
