avi file not shown live

Hello hello,
I have uploaded an .avi-file thru the filemanager, which performs perfectly in frontpage and in preview in browser, but not live..... Only the alttext is shown and the size of the movie.
Anyone any idea?!

i have made the avi myself from en camcordertape with adobe premiere; could it be that i have to try another compression method? i am not very at ease with codec and stuff like that

You may have to, most likely mpeg format.

best way to invoke AVI's in html?

Today I have tried Firefox, which does not want to do NOTHING with MS plug-ins... But the AVI itself plays perfectly well in REal One, Winamp and Windows Media Player. So todays conclusion is that the way i invoke the movie in the html must be the problem. It must be using now the active x controls which explains the non-responsive behavior of firefox.

Anyone any experience with what i call the best way to invoke an avi so that it will be shown in a number of browsers???
