Backup cronjob

I don't know anything about cronjob syntax, but I want to setup a cronjob to backup my files and database periodically and maybe mail or ftp it to a safe place (especially the dB)

Do I have to create a perl or php-script to do this, or can I do it just with DirectAdmin?

Your user interface should have a link to a page to manage your backups.

Yes.

But I can't set it to do weekly or daily backups - I have to do it manually each time.

Or is there something I have overlooked?

The DirectAdmin user backups are built into DirectAdmin so you don't have access to them via cronjob.
