BCP for importing zone files in to DA

Is there a recommended method of importing zone files in to a directadmin box.

These would be zones from pre-existing domains, that I plan to use the DA box as a hidden master for.

I would also like to do it for .in-addr.arpa zones as well. Most would be managed by an admin level account but some would need to be assigned to user and reseller level accounts.

If you copy zone files over to the correct directory (on our servers, that's /var/named) they should appear in the DirectAdmin control panel, but I believe you'll have to add the references into your /etc/named.conf file manually. Once they're there, DirectAdmin should be able to manage them.

Two important notes: once there's a zone file for a domain, that domain cannot be added into Directadmin. If you're going to add a domain to DirectAdmin, then make sure there's no zone file in place for that domain, or you'll get an error that the domain exists.

And ...

In DirectAdmin only administrators and domain users can manage DNS through the control panel; resellers have no access to DNS.

So I guess the best thing to do is to create the user then do a cut and paste and up the serial.

Do you know the logic for preventing Resellers from editing DNS; in some cases customers are not able to do things like that them selves and giving access will just cause problems.

When you create resellers you can limit dns control to them or modify the reseller/user in users manager. There is a little checkbox for dns control.

The reseller can log into all his user accounts without their passwords and manage their DNS there. As long as the systems administrator has allowed DNS control to the reseller the reseller can pass it along to the users.
