Hi all,

I'm relatively new to DA and I have a (beginners) question.

My dedicated server has 5 IP addresses. What is the advantage of this? Is it better to distribute websites across several IP addresses because this is better for performance?

All websites are now assigned to the server IP address.

How to move a website to anoter IP address? I assume I have to update the DNS records as well?

Thanks in advance...

I don't think there are any advantages. You've probably gotten five IP#s because you've gotten the smallest possible subnet, which has eight IP#s, five usable. There are advantages to having each server on its own subnet.

To have sites on their own IP# they must be on seperate user accounts, because DA limits a user account to one IP#.

If they're not already setup that way I believe someone has a script (search these forums) that'll move domains between users.

And DirectAdmin has a script that will change one IP# to another.

You need to have root access to run either script.

Thanks for the explanation.
I have full access to the serverv.
Is it a good idea then, to create a reseller which has another IP then the server IP?

(i'm just curious if this is a better way of administrating things in DA...)

We don't put users on the admin reseller account; we create users for different packages, so we can have different startup emails.

They can all be on the same IP# or IP#s; they only have to have IP#s assigned to them so they can assign them to users.
